Review: Throne of Glass

Throne of Glass
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I would give this 4.5 stars if I could. I seriously loved this book! I really liked the main character - she was a mix of strength, humor, vulnerability, and determination.

As far as YA fantasy novels go - this is a thumbs up for sure. I can't wait for the next book!

Review: Crossed

Crossed
Crossed by Ally Condie

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Hmmmm... this is a tough one. I liked the concept behind this series. And I guess I still do, but this book was beyond frustrating. We spend the entire time waiting and watching her struggle to get to Ky. And then they find eachother, just to be seperated, AGAIN. But this time by the rebel resistence. And they leave each other with such quiet resignation... and yet she risked her life to find him. It just didn't sit right with me. Maybe it's because it the middle book in the series, so there is no real resolution at the end. I don't know, but I didn't like it.

However, I will read the next book because I have great hope for this series. I'm not ready to give up on it yet. And who knows, maybe after reading the 3rd book, this one will grow on me.

Review: The Iron Knight

The Iron Knight
The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Really, I am giving this 4.5 stars. This series just got better and better. I still think the third book is my favorite, but this is a close second. I enjoyed seeing things from Ash's perspective, and I'm glad he got to "have his cake and eat it too," not completely giving up his immortality. It would have been way too sad for him to not live forever after all that he went through to be with her. But he was willing to, and I guess that's the point.

Anyway, it was a good end to a great series.

Review: Destined

Destined
Destined by Aprilynne Pike

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Yep, this was good. I think it might even be my favorite of the series. I liked that we were past all the "learning experiences" Laurel had to go through, and instead we finally get to the heart of it all - good vs. evil, and love conquering all.

I liked how the author ended the series: realistic and yet satisfying.

Review: Wildwood Dancing

Wildwood Dancing
Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I listened to this book on my way to and from California. It was actually really good to listen to it instead of read it, because I have a feeling I may not have gotten into it right away, and lately, for me, that is the kiss of death for a book. I've become less forgiving of books that don't catch my interest right away.

But, I'm glad I was stuck in a car, with nothing else for entertainment, because it turns out - I really like this book. It is... the only word I can think of is... delightful. It was predictable at times, but the author creates some amazing imagery and multi-faceted story telling.

This was a wholesome approach to an old fable, and I highly recommend it!

Review: I've Got Your Number

I've Got Your Number
I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I am a fan of Sophie Kinsella, and I was also a fan of this book. The only reason I didn't give it four-stars was simply because the main character really bothered me at times. I mean, I understand that for this story to work, she would need to have the type of personality that doesn't mind seriously invading a stranger's privacy. But still, she irked me at times. And seriously, is it realistic to think of someone answering texts and e-mails, even when they asked you not to and are graciously letting you use their phone?

Anyway, I didn't mean for this review to sound like a bad one, because I actually really enjoyed this book. It was fun and a perfect beachy/summer read.
